Gulf Coast Residential Treatment Interventions

What is an intervention?

An intervention is a time for family, friends, and co-workers to let a loved one know their concerns about his or her drug, alcohol, or substance abuse.

How does an intervention work?

Without the knowledge of the individual, a family member or friend contacts a treatment facility or intervention service. This service then helps arrange for family members, friends, and co-workers to meet at pre-determined location. The individual, without knowledge of the intervention, shows up a short time later. This information is kept from the individual because if he or she knew about the coming confrontation, they may refuse to come.

Under the guidance of an experienced counselor, loved ones can honestly tell how the individual’s substance abuse has affected their lives. They can openly describe their feelings- the concern, anger, worry, and frustration- to the individual without fear of reprisal. The goal of the session is to convince the individual to seek help and to attend an in-patient or out-patient treatment program.

Who conducts the intervention?

An intervention is an emotionally charged situation; without proper guidance, the session can become an argument or otherwise unproductive event. Our counselors are specially trained to conduct interventions and can help convey to the individual that everyone was acting only out of concern for his or her welfare.

Why conduct an intervention?

Many people who most desperately need help often refuse it. If you know someone who is out of control, who can’t seem to get a handle on their drinking or using, please contact us without delay. Call today for more information on how you can help.
